vast areas of the netherlands and other states seem to be filling up with suburban ‘matter’ of low cost housing, low rent offices, warehouses and other low density elements. how to cope with this matter that is turning our environment into one ‘sea of mediocracy’, one vast ‘greyness’, an equation of difference and individualism? is it possible to reconsider this situation by carrying densities to an extreme and ruffling the texture with inserts or polarities? [mvrdv, farmax- excursion on density]
how can the character or difference and individualism be kept without it becoming a mass of sameness or a jumble/ jungle of individualism? it asks for a skilful integration of diversity.

projekt I bolt on, bochum

scattered around germany there are a fair amount of bunkers left untouched as remainders and reminders of world War II. the city of bottrop alone accommodates three of them in very different developing neighbourhoods.
the project explores the possibilities of reacting to such a massive, cold, dominant and unrelenting appearance - but a somewhat intriguing ‘building’
the approach the project takes is to face the bunker with the same disrespect that it treats its immediate vicinity. its strength will be exploited; its system will be laid on its back.

projekt I konzertsaal im ehemaligen gasometer, leipzig
prof. dipl.-ing mennemann, university of applied sciences, münster
in den letzten jahren sind viele projekte realisiert worden, die sich mit bauen und erweiterung im bestand und umnutzung von bestehenden historisch bedeutsamen gebäuden beschäftigt haben.
dieses projekt zielt auf einen behutsamen umgang mit der substanz eines bestehenden gasometers in leipzig hin -ein konzertsaal wird integriert.
